Sacraments / Sacramentos / Sacramenti

"A sacrament is a sacred and visible sign that is instituted by Jesus to

give us grace, an undeserved gift from God."

Catechism of the Catholic Church 1084

Jesus Christ instituted the Sacraments during His public earthly ministry 2,000 years ago, and He is present every time we celebrate them. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church explains, "the seven sacraments touch all the stages and all the moments of the Christian life" (1210). The seven sacraments are Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Marriage.

1

Experience the transformative power of Holy Baptism, a sacred initiation rite that symbolizes the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door to the other Sacraments. By Baptism we become members of the Body of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and share in its mission!

2

Confession, or Reconciliation, is a Sacrament in which a penitent confesses their sins to a priest, who represents Christ and the Church, and receives absolution and is reconciled with the Christian community. First Reconciliation (followed by First Communion) are significant milestones in the Christian life.

3

Confirmation completes the receipt of baptismal grace. In Confirmation, the baptized Christian is more perfectly bound to the Church and enriched with the Holy Spirit's extraordinary strength. The Confirmed Catholic commits to live as a faithful witnesses of Christ, spreading and defending the faith.

4

The Sacrament of Marriage, or Matrimony, is the covenant by which a man and a woman form an intimate communion of life and love. It is a permanent and unbreakable union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God, wherein man and woman unite as one flesh and are open to new life.

5

Communion, or the Eucharist, is the Sacrament in which bread and wine blessed by a priest really become the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ. The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. First Communion (following First Reconciliation) are significant milestones in the Christian life. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
